Only a few dozen people took part in the very first Vyshyvanka Day. But just a few years later, the celebration spread across Ukraine — and beyond. In 2014, during the Revolution of Dignity and the war in eastern Ukraine, the holiday gained a new layer of meaning — as a symbol of national resistance, unity, and defiance.
After 2010, Vyshyvanka Day began to gain wide support in educational institutions, government bodies, and private companies. Social media saw the rise of flash mobs, campaigns, and contests for the most beautiful vyshyvanka. The scale of the celebrations continued to grow:
During the full-scale invasion in 2022, the vyshyvanka became more than just festive attire — it became a symbol of resistance. Even Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines wore them on this day.
